Terempa is the capital of the Anambas Islands and the only area to get internet connection.
World City Metropolis! ;)
When we arrived here we were overwhelmed by the new building of a gigantic mosque.
Thousands of tonnes of landfill and rock movements were needed to complete the structure. The reason is that there is hardly any flat land here to build such a structure.
Most of the houses of the locals are therefore built on stilts into the water.
We are surprised by the dimensions of this mosque, especially in relation to the location considering also the fact that Terempa has only one main street.
However, the architectural masterpieces in other sectors - such as road construction or electricity and water supply can only be summarized in such a way that it would be better instead of building always more Koran schools, to build more craft schools.
But usually it works somehow.
The people here on the Anambas Islands are incredibly friendly and I feel like an attraction from the Freak Circus.
"Hello Mister ... please photo" with this request of children or adults to a common souvenir photo with the big white man without hair but also the whole English vocabulary is exhausted.
However, this does not detract from the communication. With hands and feet we get what we want, or we are also offered things we do not want.
The helpfulness of the residents is great and we feel really welcome here on the Anambas Islands.
