Now that our curiosity about the city of Tunis has been more than satisfied, it was time to take a look at Sidi Bou Said, where we have been anchored for days.
This town is simply magical. It is not for nothing that the narcissistic president (whose large-format pictures can be admired on every corner and on every wall of the palace and which look like an advertising campaign for the second-hand dealer you trust) has one of his palaces here.
Ibiza, Greece, Disneyland!
When strolling through the streets and alleys of the old town of Sidi Bou Said, comparisons to these places come to mind.
Ibiza because of the cafes, Greece because of the blue and white houses and Disneyland because it's just so gorgeous, kitschy beautiful.
What a contrast to the poor, dusty and often desolate desert villages inland.
